Get your free credit report

You can see your credit reports from all three bureaus for free, every week, at AnnualCreditReport.com. It's the official free site. Type the address yourself so you don't land on a look-alike.

Go to AnnualCreditReport.com (opens in a new tab)
  1. Go to AnnualCreditReport.com and click "Request your free credit reports."

  2. Enter your name, address, date of birth, and Social Security number. Only enter this on the official site.

  3. Choose all three bureaus: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion.

  4. Answer a few security questions to prove it's you. They may ask about past addresses or accounts.

  5. Read your report. Check names, addresses, and accounts. Anything you don't recognize could be an error or fraud.

  6. Save it. On a laptop, click Print, change the printer to "Save as PDF," and save the file. Then you can send it to your phone or keep it in your files.

  7. Repeat for the other two bureaus.

The three credit bureaus

Go to each bureau directly to freeze your credit or dispute an error. Free reports come from AnnualCreditReport.com.

Your free report shows your credit history, not your score. Check at least once a year and before any big application like an apartment or a car.
